You can get your own Ship and stuff in this game with cannons when you venture on the waters. But people can also make cannons on land to try and War you.

Darkfall does not have a newbie island. However new players are pretty safe close to the starting villages (NPC guards protecting them), and reasonably safe in the race homelands (NPC guards here and there, plus the protection of having players of the same race running around).

Each racial homeland is 25 km2, so there is plenty of room to learn the game in a fairly safe environment, before venturing out into The Big Unknown.

There are no "safe zones" where you can't be attacked, but you will still find that you are reasonably safe in large areas of the world.

Looting someone of your own race (or aligned races) you haven't killed (then you are flagged criminal anyway), other than in your clan or on your friends list will flag you as a criminal for x minutes.

So in this scenario:

Player A kills, flagged as criminal +xx to negative alignment - guards attack
Player B loots, flagged as criminal + x to negative alignment - guards attack

A dead body that is older than xx minutes, can be freely looted.

Housing is a big thing for us. You can expect more information about it in the FAQ within short.

But yes, you can lock the door. You can store items there, and you can hire guards to guard it. You can even set out traps.

About lockpicking: Still undecided. We are leaning towards no, but we may make it pickable, and have (limited) secure non-pickable chests inside the houses instead, to make things a little more interesting

About the combat engine: We are trying to make a system that let actual player skill shine through. Think of it as something in between AC and Quake, with lots of UO and Diablo added in. Oh and a healthy dose of Magestorm, if anyone played that game.

Personally I think UO had the best pvp system to date (before the horrible patches). If you were quick on the keyboard, quick in the head and had decent tactical understanding, you could beat a stronger character, or even 3-4 other players at once if you were really really good.

In AC its basically character and buffing. We want to try to take it one or two steps further

That said, you do not have to be a Quake/Counterstrike god to have fun in Darkfall. Teaming up with friends, and being good at team coordination can lead to success on the battlefield.

How do you think Norway beat Brasil 2 times in a row at football (thats soccer for you americans)? All of the Brasilian players had better individual skills than the Norwegians, but Norway worked better as a team

You dont even have to fight much. If you are a good politician or diplomat, you can be a successful leader of a guild or a kingdom.

If you are a good businessman you can set up a healthy trade operation, and gain financial power (hire merchenaries and take over a kingdom for instance).

We have spent alot of resources preparing to prevent and catch cheaters. Our system is extremely sophisticated.

If - no, make it WHEN - we catch someone cheating, we will come down on them like a ton of bricks.

We have several minigames/ingame games planned, including gambling and casino-like stuff.

Its pretty low on our priorities list right now though, but definately something we want in there.

Darkfall is not so much about "play to crush" - "play to have fun" is my favorite Darkfall mantra.

We are aware of the problems and pains involved with city siege and capture. We are testing out several setups, trying to make it worthwhile for the attacker, without hurting the defenders so much that they can never get back up on their feet again after loosing a city.

We will not limit capture, but we may limit destruction of structures to some degree. Meaning we may allow the attacker to burn down a few structures if they so desire, but not everything.

If the city is still standing reasonably intact, the clan that lost their city can eventually try to get it back again, which in turn leads to more siege and pvp action (something we all want).

Changing the design of Darkfall is pretty much just a matter of changing values in XML documents, so we can easily adjust and change during the testing stages.

With your help testing this stuff, we will get it right before release.

Was said you could max all Skills in the game . Of over 300+ skills.. but as you learn more the extra skills would become alot harder / time wise to master.

You can unlearn skills you no longer want.

Additionally, certain skills count less towards the increased difficulty curve than others. A skill such as 100 Baking contributes, lets say 10 points to the total skills pool, while a more important skill such as 100 Disarm contributes, lets say 50 points to the total skill points pool.

Every skill is weighted like this, and we are trying to make it as balanced as possible.

So, a person with 20 different lesser skills such as baking, tailoring, taunt etc may in fact have the same or less total skill points than a perfectly built character with 10 greater skills such as Necromancy, Fire Magic, Swordsmanship, Parry etc.

Forum registration for clans - CLOSED: Next open date is Oct 27-29
At the time of this writing there are about forty guilds remaining to be processed, they should be done within the next eight hours.

Guild registration for the month of September is now CLOSED. It will open again on October 27th at 2pm PDT and remain open until October 29th at 12am PDT. That's 9pm GMT and 7am GMT folks.

As far as the Sept registration period goes; we got a grand total of 451 submissions so it will take some time to process everything. Current ETA for completion is Sept 24. If you have not heard from either me or Guild Registrar by Sept 24th please send ME a pm informing me.

So wait, you have already registered meaning you wouldn't have to redo it Oct 27th? That's awesome if so. I didn't read through all of the info you originally posted, but I will after posting this. Perhaps this question will be answered in what I read (and if so I'll edit this ^^) but how is their beta acceptance planned out? Is it a guild thing where your guild of X people is accepted at once, or is it the typical individual person acceptance in an email or whatever? I know some beta forms ask you whether or not you are in a guild, and if so how many people are in your guild, therefore making whole guild acceptance into a closed beta a possibility, especially in a game like this.

As of right now, I agree with you Jet - the game looks amazing and despite the shitty graphics it sounds like a great game. I haven't been playing anything really since I got back from my weekend trip, and I plan on taking a brief break from games since there is nothing new to play. The next game I pick up depends on which betas start up. AION, 9dragons, Darkfall, whatever. I'll be back on Vent and such when I start playing again. If I plan on sticking around to play a game come release, I'll consider formally applying to Domination. You guys seem to have the same feelings regarding PvP that I do, and I look forward to playing a new game like this. In the meantime, I'll be on XFire if you need me.

Ya basically when i filled out the registration. I had to enter in guild name , guild domain , guild website forums etc.


Then tell how many Participants i would probably have etc...

Yeah I had to do something like that when I registered for LOTRO forums/applied for beta. I just said Dom was my guild and put the forums address since I am currently playing with you guys. I said number in guild was 51-100 since I hear you have ~60. I'm not big on LOTRO but who knows - that might change down the road. Like I've said before, better to apply and change my mind than not apply at all and want in later.

P.S. I was browsing Amazon since I have a gift cert there (since Xmas, still need to use it heh) and for shits and giggles I typed in "Darkfall" into search to see if they had any info about it yet. Here's what I got:
